Special Episode: Barry Singer on the Optimism of Broadway's "Ever After"

On today’s episode, Matt is in conversation with theatre journalist and author Barry Singer.

More than a decade and a half ago, Barry released his oral history book “Ever After” about the previous quarter century of the tumultuous decades of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and early aughts on Broadway. This month, a new edition has been released adding incredibly insightful detail to the last 17 years up until the pandemic shut the New York theatre down.

Matt and Barry discuss the epic 2003 season with “Wicked” and “Avenue Q,” the importance of “RENT” on the evolving artistic ethos of Broadway, the optimism that artists and producers feel for the future of the industry, and much more.
